On the 17th of April, 2023, the Department of Oils, Oleochemicals, and Surfactants Technology at the Institute of Chemical Technology in Matunga, Mumbai, inaugurated its "Multipurpose Oil-seeds Extraction and Vegetable Oils Refining Plant." The project was supported by the DST-FIST.
The inauguration was graced by Hon'ble Minister Shri. Chandrakant (Dada) Patil, who heads the Higher and Technical Education, Textile, and Parliamentary Work portfolios. This project was possible due to the great efforts of Prof. Ravindra D. Kulkarni, a senior professor in the Oils, Oleochemicals, and Surfactants Technology Department, Government of Maharashtra. His efforts are instrumental in making this project a reality.
Ferro Oiltek Pvt. Ltd., a reputed company in the edible oil industry, played a significant role in setting up this state-of-the-art refining plant. This new plant has the capability of extracting various types of oilseeds and refining vegetable oils for a variety of applications. With the help of technical excellence by Ferro Oiltek, this plant will cater to the ever-increasing demand for high-quality edible oils, industrial-grade oils, and biodiesel.
The institute's Oils, Oleochemicals, and Surfactants Technology Department has been working for many years to advance research and development in oils and fats technology. With the addition of this new plant, the department will be able to undertake research on the latest technologies and improve the efficiency and quality of oil extraction and refining.
